From Care to Crown: Marcie Reid’s Inspiring Journey as Miss GB Finalist (2025)

Facing adversity and emerging victorious – that's the inspiring story of Marcie Reid, a Miss Great Britain finalist who's using her platform to champion a cause close to her heart. Having navigated the challenges of the care system, Marcie, a 30-year-old from Swinefleet, East Yorkshire, is now a beacon of hope, aiming to shed light on the issues faced by those who have experienced similar circumstances.

Marcie's journey began at the tender age of three when she entered the care system due to the domestic abuse her family suffered. Her biological father was later murdered. She reflects on her childhood, stating, "Growing up in care was extremely difficult - I moved foster home 13 times." This experience fueled her determination to prove that one's past doesn't dictate their future.

Currently working with Action For Children, a charity dedicated to supporting vulnerable children, Marcie returned home to her mother and adopted father at the age of ten. She believes that her past experiences have shaped her into the person she is today, saying, "Everything I've been through has brought me to where I am today, so I wouldn't change a single thing."

As an estates manager, Marcie's advocacy has highlighted the additional barriers that individuals leaving care often encounter. She emphasizes the need for comprehensive support to help these individuals thrive. She explains, "A lot of people [in care] are defined by their issue and it puts them in a box and they can't get out of it." This statement underscores a critical point: the importance of not allowing past experiences to limit potential.

But here's where it gets controversial... Marcie believes that many individuals in care are unfairly labeled and restricted by their past. She argues that this limits their opportunities and potential. What do you think about this perspective? Do you agree that society sometimes boxes people in based on their past?

As Miss York 2025, Marcie is using her platform to advocate for others who have grown up in care. She hopes to win the national title and continue her mission of helping others heal and succeed. She concludes, "I've healed from my experiences. It's now my turn to help others go through their trauma, heal and to succeed."

The 2025 Miss Great Britain final, celebrating the pageant's 80th anniversary, will take place in Leicester.
